Description
The Treasure Guardian Heavenly King (བྱང་རྣམ་ཐོས་སྲས་།), also revered as Vaiśravaṇa (Heavenly King of Vaishravana) or Dharmapāla of Wealth, is an emanation of the Vaiśravaṇa lineage and one of the Four Heavenly Kings in Buddhist cosmology. Manifested as a Dharma-protector form of the eighth-stage bodhisattva (aṣṭamabhūmi bodhisattva), he simultaneously embodies the transformative presence of Ratnasaṃbhava (the Jewel-Born Buddha of the North). As a wealth-bestowing Dharma protector, he operates within both mundane and transcendent realms, safeguarding material abundance and spiritual merit.
Residing in the Northern Willow-Leaf Palace—the pure land of Vajrapāṇi Bodhisattva—he shares profound esoteric ties with Vajrapāṇi and serves as a subordinate within his retinue. Endowed with immense merit and virtue, he is the divine custodian of worldly and spiritual riches, venerated as a benevolent deity who governs treasures, bestows prosperity, and upholds the sanctity of the Buddhist Dharma. |
